ST. THOMAS OF CANTERBURY EPISCOPAL CHURCH

               BISHOP’S COMMITTEE MEETING – MARCH 19, 2007

 

Meeting opened with prayer at 6:15 pm. Those attending were Fr. Robert, Bob Dudley, Barry Weiss, Peter Mandery, Ashley Lemons, Donna Happ, Patty Macias and Clerk Judy Pellam. Martha Dudley, Joan Wanner, Dalton Menhall and Treasurer Jack Rees were absent.

I.       Minutes of February Meeting –Patty motioned to accept the minute as submitted,

          Donna seconded and the motion carried.

II.      Vicar’s Report.

          A. 2006 Parochial Report was submitted for review.

          B. Weeks Away.

               1. Vacation – April 9th through April 15th.

               2. Continuing Education – May 7 through May 13th.

          C. Outsourcing The Newsletter.

               1. May could be the first issue to be outsourced.

               2. Ads are almost sold out.

          D. New trial Sunday bulletin was discussed and it was reported that MOST will

               fund bible study information for each bulletin.

          E. Cleaning Service Update.

               1. Would like to drop cleaning of church and office.

               2. Preschool cleaning would continue to be done - have had two applicants.

          F. Church Building Update.

               1. Fr. Robert has meeting with Diocesan representatives set for April 3rd.

               2. Building, portables and other options were discussed.

               3. Bishop’s Committee consensus is to build.

III.     Treasurer’s Report.

          A. Pension Fund was late in billing which put us $3,000. over budget.

          B. Worker’s Compensation Insurance for 2006 has not yet been billed.

          C. Preschool income is above budget.

          D. Thrift Shop balance sheet was reviewed.

          E. Donna motioned to accept the Treasurer’s report, Patti seconded and motion

               carried.

IV.    Bishop’s Committee Member Reports.

         A. Parish Life Fellowship – Patty Macias

              1. Patty is working with Donna on ECW and will get together with Morey

                 Hutchens on MOST.

              2. There is a potluck meeting planned for April 22nd following the 11:00 service

                  to determine what types of social and outreach events people would like.

              3. Will do a monthly hike and Patty would like to have one other monthly event.

              4. Plans are being made for refreshments for Evensong on March 25th.

              5. Refreshments by the Bishop’s Committee for the 4th Sunday are complete.

         B. Christian Formation – Peter Mandery

              1. Peter has talked with Kathy.

              2. Working on getting donations for the Easter Egg Hunt.

              3. Kathy is checking with teachers on whether to have a summer Sunday School

                  program or take a break.

              4. Trying to recruit more Sunday School teachers.

              5. Fr. Robert said he would like to have a Christian Education committee and he

                  also wants volunteers for the preschool.

         C. Parish Life Worship – Fr. Robert

              1. Stations Of The Cross services are continuing on Friday nights.

              2. The Worship committee had a meeting on March 10th.

              3. There will be an Acolyte meeting on March 24th.

              4. Holy Week will have a full schedule.

         D. Parish Life Pastoral Care – Fr. Robert reported for Joan Wanner.

              1. Blood pressure screening will continue on the first Sunday of each month.

              2. Fr. Max and Dena Nye are both home and recovering from surgeries.

         E. St. Thomas Thrift Shop – Donna Happ

              1. Security precautions are proceeding following attempted break-in - alarm

                  system and cameras are being installed inside and locks are being changed.

              2. Shop is receiving many donations but still needs more volunteers.

              3. Bill Liesman will continue writing monthly article for the POST.

         F. St. Thomas Preschool – Bob Dudley

              1. Preschool committee held a meeting on March 15th and approved purchase of 

                  upgrades to software and Bob will follow up on this.

              2. Had five new children last week.

              3. Kelly Corey is working on marketing.

              4. Preschool director is leaving the end of May for maternity leave and plans are

                  being made to cover her absence.

        G. Administration - Communications/Multi-Media – Bob Dudley for Martha Dudley

              1. Discussed bulletin boards – Lynda Scoles will deliver and install four on

                  Saturday.

              2. Looking for creative people to design layout.

         H. Administration - Property – Bob Dudley

              1. List of those to call if alarm goes off needs to be revised – could be Bob,

                  Roland Steele, Barry Weiss and Fr. Robert.

              2. Should have protocol with alarm company – need to know when police

                  have been called.

              3. No one should enter building until police arrive.

              4. Window will be put in between school office and Narthex.

              5. Still in negotiations on new office space.

          I. Administration – Office Volunteers – Judy Pellam

              1. Georgia Higgins and Eve Shade will be returning in April following

                  sick leave.

              2. Would still like to find a few more people to volunteer.

          J. Outreach – Barry Weiss – nothing new to report.

         K. Stewardship – Time, Talent, Treasure – Ashley Lemons

              1. Will have articles in the April and May newsletters.

              2. Planning on putting together a stewardship committee.

              3. Working on time and talent survey results and on planned giving program.
